Central West NSW is one of the state's most productive and diversified agricultural zones. The region runs from the tablelands around Orange and Bathurst west to the plains of Forbes, Parkes, and Grenfell. Broadacre cropping — wheat, canola, barley, chickpeas — dominates the western slopes and plains. Sheep (wool and prime lamb) and beef cattle are carried across the region. The Orange and Cowra areas support significant cool-climate horticulture and viticulture.
